How Has Construction Equipment Evolved Over Time

Construction equipment may seem like a modern invention, however, machines have been in use since the 18th century.
Although nowhere near as advanced as they are today, looking back on history we can see how the equipment we use today has evolved from these early machines.
If you date construction back to Ancient Egypt, it took over 20 years and the work of over 20,000 men to construct the Pyramid of Giza. However, today it would likely take only around 5 years and 2,000 workers to complete. This shows how much equipment and machinery has aided us.
Before the invention of computers and technology, many construction machines were manually operated, however, automation has allowed for machinery to become far more advanced.
Nowadays we have access to fully automated equipment that has state-of-the-art technology, allowing for greater precision and control. This has aided in accelerating the time it takes to complete construction jobs and has made it much easier to accomplish.
Machinery today is also extremely safe to use. Throughout history machines have been used in many different industries, however the lack of safety regulations meant that working with such things was often perilous.
Many people have died due to unsafe practices in the workplace, however, due to increased safety measures, it is unlikely that accidents like this would occur today.
Safety in the workplace took hold around the 70s and since then we have seen improvements across many different areas, including construction equipment.
Improved protective structures, crash avoidance systems and increased awareness and training on how to use the equipment effectively have helped.
Furthermore, many machines can now be operated remotely which allows for even greater safety, as it removes the need for a manual operator. This takes workers away from danger and ensures their safety.
