One of the most recent additions to the construction equipment that we have available is the Sany range of excavators, with everything from the 1.6 tonne to the 50 tonne excavator available throughout the whole of Ireland.
But it can be difficult to know which digger would be most appropriate for your specific project, so here are some of the more frequently asked questions about these machines to help you find the most appropriate options for what you have in mind.
The right digger will depend on your working conditions and the other supporting equipment you have in place.
Crawler diggers are useful for poor working conditions with high carrying capacity. If the ground is uneven, heavy-duty diggers with narrow crawlers would be effective, while if you have loose soil and low carrying capacity, a broad crawler would perhaps be better.
Practice is key if you’re a novice Sany excavator operator. Find a level area on firm ground to train, then sit in the cab and familiarise yourself with the joysticks.
Pushing both sticks forward will move the machine forward and pushing them backwards will take you in reverse. The further you move the controls, the faster the move will be. Acceleration is done through the use of a small pedal on the left of the floor board.
Fuel costs are always a top concern for heavy machinery operators, but you can keep costs down by ensuring proper operating techniques to increase fuel efficiency. For example, when handling loading or unloading, elevate the machine higher than the truck as this can save engine power and improve working efficiency.
If you’re trenching, dig the sides of the trench before you dig the centre, as this will help save on fuel. Also, always make sure that you work with low speed and minimise rotation radiuses wherever possible to save on fuel.
